Members of the Wester Hailes Youth Agency staff were delighted to be joined by Edinburgh Pentlands MSP Gordon MacDonald for a street work session on a drizzly evening at the end of August. Firstly, the MSP visited the Pyramid Youth Centre and saw a drop in session for young people aged 12 to 16 in action. Then he walked with our youth workers around the Wester Hailes area, engaging with young people in different locations. Young people chatted with our youth workers and with Gordon MacDonald in the Plaza shopping centre and at the kick pitches at Murrayburn and Dumbryden. Mr MacDonald was particularly keen to hear young people’s views about the condition of the kick fields as part of his research into the availability and condition of outdoor recreation spaces in the Pentlands constituency.
Youth Worker Kenny Solway commented: “We are always really pleased when politicians take an interest in our work. Street work is an aspect of youth work which is not widely understood, so we were very glad that Gordon MacDonald was able to join us for a session.”
