As the end of the school year approaches so too does our school-based groupwork programmes It’s been a busy year for groupwork but always fun and enjoyable!
We’ve had the pleasure of running an Enhanced Support Base nurture group which has now completed its second year. This group has given young people with additional support needs the opportunity to take a break from their school work and explore lots of different issues, thoughts and feelings including health and relationships, confidence and self-esteem.
Our mainstream nurtures groups have been keeping us equally busy. Our S1 nurture has just completed year 1 and we’re eagerly anticipating meeting the group after summer for year 2!
Mental health continues to be a challenge for many of the young people that we work with. Our staff are trained in Low Intesity Anxiety Management (LIAM) and we’ve worked with CAMHS to run LIAM groups. These groups, which normally last around 10 weeks, help young people to understand their anxiety and why it happens and offers practical, workable solutions to manage them, usually with great succes.
Helping young people is a huge part of what we do. Our community-based work will continue throughout the summer but we’ll be back in school next year to continue our school groups and start some new ones!
