Young people in the junior group have been working hard on science activities for the last few weeks. In return for their enthusiasm, hard working and learning they will be receiving a Hi5 Award.

We recycled some plastic bottles and used newspaper and papier mache to make volcanoes. This was great fun, if a little messy. Little did we know, there was a lot more mess to come!
Young people worked in groups to paint their volcanoes and prepare the lava we needed to see them explode.

This was the most exciting part, waiting for the lava and watching them explode. We learned loads of science including why some of our volcanoes immediately exploded and why some were slow burners.

Our final volcano activity was a little different. We built a volcano cake. This time we got to eat the fruits of labour. Messy – very messy – but delicious.
