The Youth Agency recognises that the environment in which many young people live does not always allow access to safe and creative recreational activities. Barriers to participation can include social and economic factors, fear of abuse, bullying and violence, racism, sexism and other social inequalities.
We recognise that recreation is essential to every young person’s life. It provides the mechanism for young people to explore the world around them, build relationships with trusted adults and peers, improve self-esteem and confidence and improve social skills.
The Youth Agency provides a drop in programme from the Pyramid Youth Centre. The Pyramid provides young people with a place to meet their friends that is unstructured and informal. Drop In sessions are self-directed and aim to improve young people’s personal and social development, through access to recreational opportunities.
