As we find ourselves quickly approaching lighter nights and (hopefully) warmer weather it is now the turn of Kenny to share some of his childhood memories.
What was your favourite song/band/type of music growing up?
My favourite band was Slade and my favourite song was The Jean Genie by David Bowie.
What was your favourite game/activity?
Some of my favourite games were hares and hounds, kick the can, football and table tennis.
What were you like when you were at school? What subjects were good/bad at?
I was a loveable rogue (a wee rascal) best subjects anything technical or PE. My worst subject history.
“When I was young”……….
Some of my best memories are of the annual family camping holidays, loading the car with all the camping gear, mum and dad sorting out the seating arrangements for myself and four brothers and then off we would all go. Six family members looking forward to living in a tent climbing all over each other for two weeks, what`s not to like… great times.
Tell us a random fact that no one knows about you…
I was nominated to carry the Olympic torch in Edinburgh before the London Olympics in 2012.
What is your secret talent/party trick?
I can shoot three arrows into a target from 20 metres away whilst wearing a blindfold!!!
What is your favourite memory of working at the Youth Agency?
Taking a group of young people to Fordell Firs and seeing the looks on the faces of them and staff members when they went on the 3G King Swing.
What is the funniest thing that has happened when you have been working?
I once let a young person paint a fried egg on my head, the funny part was I forgot about it and went shopping in Tesco on the way home, fried egg and all. I wondered what people were looking at.
If you could invite anyone along to the Pyramid for a night who would it be and why?
John. F. Kennedy for the conversation and to see what the youth of today would make of him
Why/how did you become a Youth Worker?
I became a youth worker by accident when my local youth centre closed in 1979 I campaigned to get it reopened and ended up working in it.
What is the worst thing that has happened to you when you have been working?
Many years ago whilst working at the Inch House youth centre during an archery session a young person pointed a loaded bow at me….very scary moment!
