The Youth Agency’s Sunny July

Posted on 25th July 2018 Leave a Comment

July at the Youth Agency was all about the sun, warm days, bright nights and planning, planning and more planning!

Our drop-in has continued uninterrupted during the summer.  Following our fruit bonanza last month, our cooking has stuck with the summer theme.  We managed to squeeze in two cooking session again this month, much to the delight of our young people who seem to enjoy the chopping, mixing and stirring as much as the eating.  We started the month with barbecued burgers, hotdogs and buns.  What better way to enjoy a warm summer evening and celebrate the start of the school holidays?

Last week we introduced our groups to the delights of the summer salad.  This was much loved by some young people and proved to be a bit of a challenge for others as they were introduced to some exotic (and not-so exotic) new vegetables!  Well done to everyone who tried something new.

Although our schools work has temporarily halted for the holidays we are busy preparing for the school year ahead.  With a full-to-bursting schedule already in place for the year, the summer has been busy with planning and preparations for the various groups and programmes that begin as soon as term starts.  We’ve been working hard to plan and prepare for our Mentors in Violence Prevention launch with S6 pupils and have taken the opportunity to revisit and refresh all of our sexual health work from S2 through to S6.

Just like the drop-in, individual support doesn’t stop for holidays.  Our workers have continued to offer support to the young people that need our help most and our door, of course, remains open.
